The Australian Museum in Sydney is the oldest museum in Australia, dating back to 1827 when it was known as the Colonial Museum. It houses an extensive collection of natural science and cultural artefacts which present various facets of Australia to visitors. The First Australians Gallery includes Menagerie which features native animal sculptures by contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island artists. The Wild Planet Exhibition displays over 400 stuffed animals and specimen from around the world. The Westpac Long Gallery showcases '200 Treasures' of the Australian Museum, comprising 100 objects and exhibits on 100 people that have influenced the country. Favorites with children include the Dinosaur Gallery, and Surviving Australia which showcases dangerous creatures from various Australian habitats.
