Housed in a massive glass building by Adrien Fainsilber on the banks of the Ill River, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg houses a collection of over 18,000 works of painting, sculpture, graphic arts, photography, multimedia, and design from 1870 to the present day.

Housed in a massive glass building by Adrien Fainsilber on the banks of the Ill River, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg houses a collection of over 18,000 works of painting, sculpture, graphic arts, photography, multimedia, and design from 1870 to the present day. It thematically covers the major art movements in Western Europe from Impressionism and Fuvism through Art Nouveau, Expressionism and New Realism to contemporary. The museum has a sizeable chunk of oeuvre of artists such as Gustave Doré (403 works), Jean Arp (72 works), Victor Brauner (37 works) and César Domela (10 works), as well as several contemporary German painters. Highlights of the collection include Claude Monet's 'Champ d'avoine aux coquelicots', Alfred Sisley's 'Paysage avec maisons', Pierre-Auguste Renoir's 'Portrait de Marie Le Cœur', Auguste Rodin's 'The Thinker', Paul Klee's 'Der Mensch ist der Mund des Herrn', Paul Gaugin's 'Nature morte à l’esquisse de Delacroix', Georges Braque's 'Nature morte' and Vassily Kandinsky's 'Trois éléments'.

Admission is €7.00 for adults, and €3.50 for students and senior citizens over 60 years. Entry is free for children under 18 years.
