Wat Thmey, Siem Reap

The Wat Thmey Killing Fields stand as a memorial to the victims of the Cambodian genocide by the Khmer Rouge regime under Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979.

The Wat Thmey Killing Fields stand as a memorial to the victims of the Cambodian genocide by the Khmer Rouge regime under Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979. People who were deemed a threat to Communist ideals were mindlessly tortured and killed, which included anyone with connections to the former or foreign governments, professionals and intellectuals with no agricultural skills, urban residents, and ethnic Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Christians, Muslims, Buddhist monks, and other minorities. Wat Thmey has a monastery with a stupa where the skulls and bones of the victims are interred.
