SS John W Brown is one of the only 2 Liberty ships from World War II that are still surviving and functional.
SS John W Brown is one of the only 2 Liberty ships from World War II that are still surviving and functional. The cargo ship was built in 1942 at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore, and served as a training ship after WW-II, following which it became a memorial museum. Tours of the ship take you through the 140-ton triple-expansion steam engine room, crew quarters, flying bridge, chart room, radio room, mess rooms, troop berthing areas, stern gun deck and more. You can also take a 6 hour day cruise on the Chesapeake Bay embarking from Cruise Maryland Terminal to experience life aboard the Brown during the war.
