The cobblestoned Rue des Teinturiers is a pretty street along the Sorgue, running from Rue des Lices to the city walls along Boulevard Limbert. The textile industry flourished here in the 14th– 19thcenturies, as the canal was fitted with water-wheels that helped in rinsing and dyeing. Today, it is a tree-lined shady street with restaurants and cafes. Highlights include the Chapelle des Pénitents Gris (Grey Penitents' Chapel), La Maison de Jean-Henri Fabre, Convent des Cordeliers, Théâtre de L'ange, Maison du IV de Chiffre and the house of Jules-François Pernod.
