The 13-ton 4-faced iconic bell, named after Benjamin Hall who was commissioner of works when the tower was completed in 1858, has gilded periphals surrounding the dials which are 7 metre in diameter. Designed by Auguste Pugin, its construction was planned after the destruction of the erstwhile Palace of Westminster in 1834 due to a fire. A limited numbers of tickets are available to climb the newly renamed Elizabeth Tower, which are available only to British visitors who have approached their Member of Parliament for the same.
