The Kition Archaeological Site has ruins of a 13th century BC city-kingdom that shed light on the historical inhabitants of the area. The 5 temples and metal workshops on the Kathari site indicate the proximity of copper metallurgy to divinity and religion. There is evidence of an acropolis, a sanctuary of Astarte, a sanctuary of Melkart, and necropolis. Artifacts from here have been taken for display at the Louvre in Paris and British Museum in London.
