The Cappuccini Friars arrived in La Spezia in the 16th century, and were allocated the former Franciscan monastery on the hill of Ferrara for helping rid the plague.

The Cappuccini Friars arrived in La Spezia in the 16th century, and were allocated the former Franciscan monastery on the hill of Ferrara for helping rid the plague. The original structure was destroyed to house a battery. The present convent was built in 1930 as a votive sanctuary for sailors who died in war.
