Hoi An Silk Village, Hoi An

The Hoi An Lang Lua or Silk Village is dedicated to the silk weaving tradition of the Quang Nam province, and preserves the heritage of the Duy Xuyen village.

The Hoi An Lang Lua or Silk Village is dedicated to the silk weaving tradition of the Quang Nam province, and preserves the heritage of the Duy Xuyen village. Dating back to the 11th century when King Ly Thai Tong patronized local silk production over Chinese imports, the production and processing of silk into garments has been a pillar of Vietnam's economic development. An important commercial port on the Silk Route, Hoi An further flourished from the silk trade in the Middle Ages.

Enter the 2 hectare complex through a traditional Vietnamese wooden gate, and explore the premises to see traditional Quang Nam style ruong houses, lotus ponds, and rows of mulberry trees of 40 different strains. Learn about the silk production process, and see the rearing of silkworms, conversion of mulberry leaves into cocoons by silkworms, boiling of cocoons, spinning of yarn, silk fabric weaving on looms, Cham and Cuu Dien brocade weaving, and creation of the final tapestry, garment or accessory. Skilled artisans showcase the fine art of weaving intricate patterns into the ethereal silk creations, including the traditional Champa-Dai Viet silk. You can also participate by feeding mulberry leaves to silkworms and try your hand at spinning and weaving.

Housed in a traditional building, its museum showcases 100 ethnic costumes from 54 Vietnamese clans. The complex also has a silk showroom with a wide variety of silk material, tailored suits, and dresses that you can pick up as souvenirs. The colonial style in-house restaurant serves popular local delicacies such as cao lau and banh xeo.
