The Chiesa del Gesu e dei Santi Ambrogio e Andrea or Church of Jesus and Saints Ambrogio and Andrea is a spectacular Baroque church in Genoa. The church traces its origins back to the 6thcentury, though the present building is from 1589-1606 and the façade was completed in 1894. The façade on Piazza Matteotti has 2 tiers of pilasters, and a portal flanked by statues of St Ambrose and St Andrew by Michael Ramognino. The bell tower with a bright green dome rises behind it.
The interiors have a single nave with a central cupola and 6 side bays with smaller cupolas. The pillars, chapels, pulpit and floor have a polychrome marble finish. Gilt stucco work and breathtaking paintings add richness to the church. Admire the frescoes by Giovanni Battista Carlone, Lorenzo De Ferrari, and Giuseppe Galeotti; Rubens' 'The Circumcision' and the 'Miracle of Saint Ignatius'; Guido Reni's 'Assumption', Simon Vouet's 'Crucifixion', and statues by Taddeo Carlone and Francesco Biggi.
