The Dunedin Botanic Garden was established in 1863 as New Zealand's first botanic garden.
The Dunedin Botanic Garden was established in 1863 as New Zealand's first botanic garden. Spread over 30 hectares, its lower part is at an altitude of 25 metres, while the upper gardens rise up to a height of 85 metres. The lower gardens have a Winter Garden, a heated Edwardian greenhouse, rose and herb gardens, a duck pond, children's playground, band rotunda, Lindsay Creek, Camellia collection, Clive Lister Garden, and Japanese garden. The upper gardens have a small aviary, native plant collection, Mediterranean Garden Terrace, Daffodil Lawn, Arboretum, Lovelock Bush, Fern Gully, Rock Garden, and an extensive Rhododendron Dell with more than 3000 rhododendrons.
