Built on the site of a historic fort in Al Samriya, the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum showcases the extensive personal collection assembled by Sheikh Faisal to preserve the cultural heritage of Qatar. Spread over 15 halls in 3 buildings, the collection comprises over 15,000 objects dating from the Jurassic Age through the early Islamic period to the present day. It is arranged according to 4 themes -

  • Islamic Art – It showcases Islamic artwork across various media such as paintings, textiles, jewelry, daggers, and decorative arts. Also on display are Islamic manuscripts, and verses of the Qur'an.
  • Qatari Heritage – It displays traditional Qatari artifacts, including Bedouin handicrafts, pearling equipment, cartouches, Sufi objects, Al-Burqu’, and dhows.
  • Vehicles – The impressive vehicle collection has automobiles from around the world, including a historic steam car from the 19th century, 1940s Desoto models, Ford T models, Rolls Royce, and Formula 1 vehicles.
  • Coins and Currency - The collection coins and currency showcases ancient and medieval currencies of silver and gold coins used in the Middle East, and as well as modern currencies of several countries around the world.
