Once a dreamy fishing village inhabited by the Gadigal people, the picturesque seaside suburb has beautiful beaches that offer incredible views across the waters to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Bradley's Head. The best way to reach Watsons Bay is by ferry from Circular Quay. Its highlight is The Gap, an ocean cliff on the eastern side with views to Manly at North Head and the Pacific Ocean. The Watsons Bay Walk is a scenic path around South Head with views of Sydney Harbour, Pacific Ocean, North Head, site of The Dunbar's shipwreck, and the historic Hornby Lighthouse on the tip. There are other trails leading to the Lady Bay Beach which is a nude beach, and the Signal Station and Macquarie Lighthouse. Explore the area to see the St Peter's Church, Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea, HMAS Watson, Robertson Park, and the beautiful heritage cottages lining the narrow streets. Laings Point on Watsons Bay is also historically significant, as the anti-submarine boom net installed here arrested the Attack on Sydney Harbour by 3 Japanese submarines in 1942. To the north of the area is Camp Cove where the Birrabirragal people met the First Fleet.
