Officially known as the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Garrison Church was built in 1840-'44 as the first military church in colonial Australia. Named for its popularity with the regiments of the garrison stationed nearby, it has a small museum displaying early Australian military and historical items and dedication to various Australian military groups.

Originally designed by Henry Ginn and built by mason George Payten, the building was renovated by architect Edmund Blacket in 1855-'59, followed by a reconstruction in 1878 and a restoration in 1938. The mixed Gothic building of the Anglican Church is built in sandstone from the Argyle Cut, and measures 100 feet by 55 feet. It features beautiful stained-glass windows, including one depicting the Annunciation, the Adoration of the Shepherds, the Baptism of Christ and the Ascension on the east face.
