Santa Teresa is a hill-side neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, known for its winding, narrow alleys lined with 19th – 20th century mansions of the wealthy. A favorite with artists and tourists, the area today is home to art galleries, studios, restaurants and bars.

The historic Santa Teresa Tram, connecting the neighborhood to the city centre over the Carioca Aqueduct, is a heritage system that is one of the oldest streetcar lines in the world. It is operated as a tourist attraction on the 6 km route, and runs on a rare 1100 mm gauge.
