One of the most prestigious shopping streets in the world, the Magnificent Mile is a stretch of Michigan Avenue that is home to massive department stores, luxury boutiques, and larger-than-usual stores for national chains like The Gap, Banana Republic, and Crate & Barrel. Running from DuSable Bridge on the Chicago River in the south to Oak Street in the Near North Side, the Magnificent Mile is lined with landmark buildings such as the Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, Water Tower, Lookingglass Theater Company, Trump International Hotel, Allerton Hotel, and John Hancock Center with 360 Chicago. 5 of the 10 tallest buildings in Chicago are on this route. The Mag Mile has some 460 shops, with some retailers having 2 or more branches here: one standing alone, and another in one of the department stores. This isn't the place to look for discounts, though. Remember, you're not shopping here because it's cheap - you're shopping here because it's the Magnificent Mile.
