The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago is one of the largest of its kind in the world, with a collection of over 24 million specimens and objects spanning from the earliest fossils to past and current cultures around the world. Housed in a Classical Revival style building from 1921, the museum features an array of interesting exhibits, science demonstrations, and interactive activities that provide a fun, learning experience.

  • The Ground Level has the Inside Ancient Egypt exhibition with 23 human mummies, a tomb that you can enter, shrine to the cat goddess Sekhmet, and 5000 year-old hieroglyphs, Bushman, Sea Mammals, Man-eater of Mfuwe, and Underground Adventure which takes you into the world of insects and bugs.
  • The first floor has the ✓Gidwitz Hall of Birds, ✓World of Mammals with dioramas recreating animals in their natural habitats, ✓Rice Gallery with the man-eater Tsavo Lions exhibit, ✓Reptiles & Amphibians, ✓The Ancient Americas which explores 13,000 years of human societies that thrived on the continent long before the arrival of Europeans, ✓Pawnee Earth Lodge where you can explore a Native American dwelling from the 1800s under a night sky, ✓Grainger Science Hub where you can meet scientists and participate in hands-on activities, and ✓Alsdorf Hall of Northwest Coast and Arctic Peoples which is dedicated to Inuits.
  • The upper level has the ✓Regenstein Halls of the Pacific which showcases objects from the Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia regions, ✓3D Theater, ✓Evolving Planet which presents the evolution of life on Earth over 4 billion years from the first organism to present day life, ✓Dinosaur Hall with SUE - the largest, best-preserved, and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex ever found, ✓Plants of the World, ✓Cyrus Tang Hall of China and ✓Hall of Jades showcasing Chinese jade artifacts spanning 8000 years. The Grainger Hall of Gems displays a fascinating collection of over 700 gemstones. The Fossil Prep Lab demonstrates how excavated fossils are readied for study. At the DNA Discovery Center, you can watch scientists perform DNA analysis on specimen.
