The Revolution Square in central Bucharest is a historic square named after the 1989 Romanian Revolution which led to the end of 42 years of Communist rule in Romania.

The Revolution Square in central Bucharest is a historic square named after the 1989 Romanian Revolution which led to the end of 42 years of Communist rule in Romania. The southern end of the square has the Memorial of Rebirth that commemorates the Revolution. It features a 25 metre high marble pillar with a metal crown on it. It is surrounded by a plaza covered by marble and granite. Around the square are the former Royal Palace which houses the National Museum of Art of Romania, Athenaeum, Kretzulescu Church, Athénée Palace Hotel, University of Bucharest Library, and the building of the former Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party which houses the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform. Towards the north of the square is an equestrian statue of Carol I of Romania, which is a remake of the original statue by Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović that was destroyed by Communists.
