The Ion Luca Caragiale National Theatre is one of the 4 national theatres of Romania, located in the capital city of Bucharest. It presents excellent Romanian and international performances in its 7 halls – Grand Hall, Amphitheatre, Studio Hall, Painting Hall, Black Box Hall, Media Hall, and the Studio 99. Inaugurated in 1852 by the Philharmonic Society as the Grand Theatre of Bucharest, the original Baroque building was destroyed during World War II when a bomb intended for the Palatului Telefoanelor across the street fell on it. The new building, completed in 2014, lies half a kilometer away from the original site. The National Theatre Museum here presents the eventful history of the institution, through displays of artifacts, books, manuscripts, paintings and other objects.
