Spread over 10 hectares in the Herăstrău Park on the banks of Lake Herăstrău of the Colentina River, the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum is an open-air ethnographic museum that showcases traditional Romanian rural architecture and lifestyles.

It has 272 authentic peasant farms and houses that have been taken from villages all over Romania for installation and display here. They are grouped according to their origins, and their settings have been accurately recreated to reflect the ambience of the era. There are houses along with churches, inns, outhouses, barns, stables, pig pens, larders, and mills to offer visitors a complete picture of Romanian villages. Building materials vary from clay and wood to stone depending on the region. Houses have intact fences and gates, as well as furnished interiors with furniture, work tools, kitchenware, carpets, tapestries, religious iconography, and other artifacts. One of the highlights of the museum is the church from Dragomiresti village, Maramures with its 35 metre high steeple.

It is an immensely interesting museum that highlights the differences in lifestyle in different regions in Romania.
