Grote Markt is the heart of Bruges, a bustling cobblestone-paved square surrounded by magnificent historic buildings.

Grote Markt is the heart of Bruges, a bustling cobblestone-paved square surrounded by magnificent historic buildings. In the centre of the square is a monumental statue of Pieter de Coninck and Jan Breydel, who successfully led the Bruges Matins against French occupation by Philip IV in the Battle of the Golden Spurs of 1302. The open area also hosts live entertainment. Near the miniature replica of the Belfort are 2 frituurs serving mouthwatering authentic Belgian fries. Surrounding the square are the Provincial Court, Historium, Craenenburg House, Huis Bouchotte, and the imposing Belfort. Weave your way around the square leisurely in a horse-cart as you take in the beautiful sights of the Markt.
