Bremen Cathedral, Bremen

The towering Bremen Cathedral on the market square has a history dating back to the 8th century, and has been rebuilt several times over the years.

The towering Bremen Cathedral on the market square has a history dating back to the 8th century, and has been rebuilt several times over the years. Dedicated to St. Peter, the ecclesiastical Gothic structure with Romanesque features has twin 89 metre tall towers topped with Rhenish 'helmets', and a rose window in between. The cathedral's lead cellar houses 8 mummies in glass-topped coffins. The Cathedral Museum houses important archaeological finds of 11th - 15th century textiles and jewelry from the graves here, as well as paintings, sculpture, murals and other religious art. The Bible Garden in the former cloisters offers a spot for relaxation in the midst of lush greenery, with over of the 60 plants here being those mentioned in the Bible.
