Michael's Gate, Bratislava

Michael's Gate is the only extant city gate of Bratislava's medieval fortifications.

Michael's Gate is the only extant city gate of Bratislava's medieval fortifications. Built in 1300 on the north approach to the city, it was reconstructed in Baroque style in 1753-'58, with the addition of the statue of St. Michael and the Dragon on top of the 51 metre tall tower. The 'Zero kilometre' metal map below the gate shows distances to nearby cities. The tower houses the Museum of Weapons and City Fortifications of the Bratislava City Museum. The 6thfloor has a balcony offering views over the city.
