Place de l'Hotel-de-Ville is the main square at the heart of Aix-en-Provence, surrounded by beautiful historical buildings such as the Town Hall, Belfry, and Corn Exchange. At the centre is a fountain built in 1755, with a Roman column topped by a laurel and globe. Sculptor Jean-Pancrace Chastel also added gargoyles at the edges of the column base. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the square hosts a flower market, and on the first Sunday of every month, a book fair is organized here.
