Old State House, Boston

The Old State House is the former seat of government in Boston and the oldest surviving building here dating back to 1713.

The Old State House is the former seat of government in Boston and the oldest surviving building here dating back to 1713. The Georgian 'Towne House' as it is called, was the political centre where debates and important events took place. In 1770, the Boston Massacre took place just in front of the State House, and in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was read to the public from the balcony for the first time in Massachusetts. Today it is home to America's Revolutionary Museum and an important point on the Freedom Trail.
