Part of Boston's Emerald Necklace, Franklin Park is the biggest park in the city with an area of 527 acres. It has several sporting facilities such as tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, running tracks, and an 18-hole golf course. The Playhouse in the Park is an amphitheater that hosts concerts by renowned musicians. The Schoolmaster Hill, named after Ralph Waldo Emerson, offers great views over the area. The grounds are also home to the Franklin Park Zoo which has exotic animals such as lions, tigers, pygmy hippos, Masai giraffes, Amur leopards, gorillas, and zebras.
