Sprawling over 22,000 hectares, the Rimutaka Forest Park is a protected area used for recreational nature activities such as tramping (hiking), camping, cycling, horse-riding, bird-watching and hunting. It is a 45 minute drive from Wellington, and encompasses the Catchpool Valley and the Orongorongo Valley at the southern end of the Rimutaka Range. There are various trails, with lodges and huts along the way for rest.
