Named after former city mayor Sir Frank Kitts, the park on Wellington's waterfront was opened in 1976 on a site that was earlier used for wharf sheds.

Named after former city mayor Sir Frank Kitts, the park on Wellington's waterfront was opened in 1976 on a site that was earlier used for wharf sheds. It features a children's playground with a lighthouse-shaped slide, an amphitheatre-style seating area for picnics and events, electric cars in summer, the orange foremast recovered from TEV Wahine, sundial, and works of art such as the Albatross sculpture by Tanya Ashken, Fruits of the Garden sculpture by Paul Dibble, and Water Whirler sculpture by Len Lye.
