Occupying the 1892 French Empire style building of the Wellington Harbour Board Head Office and Bond Store, the Wellington Museum is breathtaking from both outside and inside. It celebrates the city's history and heritage, tracing its development from Maori and early European settlements to the present day. See a recreation of the Bond Store when the building was a cargo warehouse, explore Jack's Boathouse to learn about the maritime history of the city, and attend a live performance recounting the 1968 Wahine disaster. The Ngā Heke section showcases different perspectives and alternative histories of Wellington’s colourful past, with a collection of eclectic objects that include the taonga Te Whanganui a Tara, Evergreen Coffee House sign, and effigy of Archibald Baxter. The Telling Tales explores the story of Wellington in the 20th century.
