Stretching over 2 miles in the east-west direction on the banks of the Potomac River, the National Mall is the most visited national park in the USA. The entire area, between Lincoln Memorial and the United States Capitol, is dotted with historical monuments, inspiring memorials and the Constitution Gardens. Memorials of note are the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Three Soldiers Statue, Vietnam Women's Memorial, and District of Columbia War Memorial. It has a host of excellent museums of the Smithsonian Institution, including the National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, National Museum of the American Indian, and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. The Sylvan Theater in the Washington Monument complex hosts free military concerts, musicals, Shakespeare plays, puppet shows and ballet performances during spring, summer and fall.

The Smithsonian Castle is a distinctive red sandstone building that is home to the home to the Smithsonian Visitor Center which presents an overview of the Smithsonian system as well as occasional exhibitions

U.S. Navy Memorial

The United States Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue NW is an open-air monument that honors those who have served and are currently serving in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marine
