Bike Tours, Verona

Verona sits pretty along the banks of the Adige river, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with preserved historical sites from its founding in the 1st century BC through the Medieval times. Discover the highlights of Verona on a bike tour as you cycle through the fascinating alleys of the city where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and The Two Gentlemen of Verona lived.

Cycle your way through the historic Old Town’s piazzas, and admire the conserved remnants of the past. See the still-in-use Arena di Verona amphitheatre from 30 AD on Piazza Bra, the largest public square. Go along Corso Cavour to the Piazza delle Erbe (Square of the Grass) to see the the Scaligeri Tombs, and the Torre dei Lamberti, the 84 m high watchtower which offers great views from top. A stone's throw away is Piazza dei Signori (Lord’s Square) which was a power centre, home to the ✓Loggia del Consiglio – Renaissance building which seated the former city council, ✓Palazzo del Podestà of the Scaligeri, ✓Arco della Tortura, the ✓Renaissance style Casa della Pièta, and ✓Palazzo dei Giudici, centered around the marble statue of Dante Alighieri. Cross the Ponte Pietro, Verona’s oldest bridge, on your way to Castel San Pietro.

Far to the southwest where the Adige meanders stands the Castelvecchio on its convex bank. Cycle along the river to the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, or go further south into the alleys to see Juliet’s Balcony and House, a mecca for romantics.

There are cycling tours along the meandering Adige river where you cross 10 of the beautiful bridges across it. Start from the red-brick Ponte Navi, go along ✓Ponte Nuovo, ✓Ponte Pietra, the oldest bridge in Verona built by the Romans, ✓Ponte Giuseppe Garibaldi, built in 1939, ✓Ponte della Vittoria, ✓Ponte Castelvecchio, built by Cangrande II as an escape from Verona, ✓Ponte del Risorgimento, and ✓Ponte Aleardo Aleardi.
