Charlottenburg Palace

  Historical

The Charlottenburg Palace is the largest palace in Berlin, with magnificent baroque state rooms, elegant porcelain collections, French paintings, and sprawling gardens. The summer residence of the first queen of Prussia, Sophie Charlotte, the palace is unrivalled in grandeur with exotic baroque and rococo interiors. Among the pieces of art on display are Watteau’s last work L'Enseigne de Gersaint, ceiling paintings by Hann Trier, Nicolas Lancret’s La Moulinette, and Chardin’s A Lady Writing a Letter. Across the street of the palace are the Bröhan Museum displaying art nouveau and art deco artifacts, and the Museum Berggruen housed in the erstwhile barracks of the Royal guards, displaying modern art works by renowned artists such as Picasso and Klee.

Classical museum lovers can spend an evening enjoying a concert performance by the Berlin Residence Orchestra at the Orangery.
