Fort Saint Elmo is a star-shaped fort in Valletta that guards the entrances to the Marsamxett Harbour and Grand Harbour on the Sciberras Peninsula. Built in the 16th century by the Knights of the Order of Saint John, it was modified and expanded in the 17th century. Today it houses the National War Museum which explores the military history of Malta.
