Founded in the 14th century as the Monastery of the Pantocrator in the northern part of Ano Poli, the Vlatadon Monastery is the only surviving monastery from the Byzantine era in Thessaloniki. Modified several times over the years, only the original catholicon of the salmon colored stone and brick quarters is extant. Dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour, it preserves religious and historic relics including manuscripts, imperial golden bull seals, and Turkish firmans.
