The Chinese Aviation Museum in Datangshan displays a collection of over 200 aircraft, including a replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer, the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. Partly located in the cavern that was originally part of the underground bunker system of Shahezhen Airbase, it has a focus on the Korean War and Cold War, displaying several military aircraft and equipment such as surface-to-air missiles, aviation cameras, high cannons, fighter planes, cargo-transport planes, anti-aircraft artillery, radar and helicopters. Activities here include a boarding tour, flight simulation, Chairman Mao’s special plane tour, and parachuting.
