Toompea is a limestone hill in the Tallinn's Old Town where the founding stronghold of the city was erected. Spread over 7 hectares, Toompea rises about 20–30 metres higher than the surrounding areas and has historically been the hub of political and religious power. Highlights of the area are the Toompea Castle which is the seat of the Riigikogu (Parliament), Pikk Hermann Tower, Stenbock House - the official seat of the Government of Estonia, Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St Mary's Cathedral, Kalev's grave, and The Estonian Academy of Sciences in the Ungern-Sternberg Palace. The hill is a great place for a stroll. You can not only get a picturesque view of the whole city from this hill, but can also come across some great restaurants and cafes in this area. Behind the hill are the Virgin’s Tower and the Kiek in the Kok Tower.
