The Rocks

  Neighbourhoods and Streets

The Rocks is a historical point of interest in Sydney, being the site of the first penal settlement of Captain James Cook’s convicts from Great Britain in 1788 AD. At the time, aboriginal people had inhabited the area for over 30,000 years and were largely killed off or retreated into the Blue Mountains. The surrounding area is still full of stone carvings that are worth seeing. Mix in a little fun, take a pub tour of the historical area and learn about the time When Rum Ran the Rocks, the rebellion sparked off by hearty rum.
