The Australian National Maritime Museum on Darling Harbour is dedicated to the seafaring history of the country.

The Australian National Maritime Museum on Darling Harbour is dedicated to the seafaring history of the country. It has a whole range of exhibits from gallery displays to ships and submarine on the docks. The permanent exhibition explores the maritime history of Australia since the early trade of Aborigines with Indonesia, through discovery and charting by Dutch, British, and French explorers to the role of the Royal Australian Navy in the defence of the country. The waterfront area has artifacts such as the Seafarers' Memorial Anchors which were used to moor the 19thcentury Nautical Training Ship Vernon, a signal mast from the Royal Australian Navy's Garden Island Dockyard, the 'Johnnie and Mehmet' commemorative sculpture which symbolizes Australia's friendship with Turkey, Windjammer Sailors sculpture, Harding safety boat, the former Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse which was transported here in 1994, and the Welcome Wall which has bronze engravings of the names of people who migrated here.

Head out to the wharf to explore the museum ships - HM Bark Endeavour which is a replica of the bark led by Lieutenant James Cook to discover the eastern coast of Australia, HMAS Vampire destroyer, and the submarine HMAS Onslow. You can also explore the yacht Blackmores First Lady which was used by Australian Kay Cottee when she became the first woman to sail solo unassisted around the world in 1988.
