The Pall Mall Square was renamed Independence Square when St. Kitts and Nevis achieved political independence from the United Kingdom on 19-September 1983. It is the administrative, commercial and social centre of Basseterre, around which are the Government Headquarters, Courthouse, Catholic Co-Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Spencer Cameron Gallery, and national banks.
