Walking Tours, Seoul

Seoul is a futuristic metropolis where Buddhism meets technology-driven lifestyles. Discover the fascinating city of glass-walled skyscrapers, high-tech subways, ancient temples, palaces, kimchi, Gangnam-style and k-pop. Walking tours cover specific areas and give a great overview of the history and culture of Seoul.

The city centre is the heart of Seoul, where you can find the Gyeongbokgung Palace with its Gwanghamun Gate, Deoksugung Palace, city hall, Seoul Museum of History, Jogyesa temple and YTN Seoul Tower. The Palace Quarter to the north has the Changdeokgung, Jong-no, Insa-dong and Bukchon palaces of the Joseon dynasty. Dongdaemun is the commercial district, with swanky shopping centres as well as traditional markets. Gangnam is, of course, the posh area with luxury shopping and restaurants.

The 600 year old Gyeongbokgung Palace was the home of the Joseon dynasty kings, and has witnessed invasions and hostile takeovers over time. Restored in the 19th century, the sprawling complex has 7,700 rooms spread over 500 buildings. The present buildings house both the National Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum. Rich in history, cultural artifacts and architecture, the palace is one of the best attractions in Seoul. A mile south from here is the Deoksugung Palace, known for its stone-wall path. The neighboring Jeongdong-gil area is well known for having Seoul's first westernized modern buildings in the late 19th century, some of which are still standing today. From here you can walk to the Bosingak Belfry, which has a huge 3-metre bell with a daily tolling ceremony from 11.30 am to 12.20 pm.
