Situated 1500 metres above sea level, Lake Minnewanka is a stunning glacial lake with emerald waters surrounded by lofty ice-covered peaks in the Banff National Park.

Situated 1500 metres above sea level, Lake Minnewanka is a stunning glacial lake with emerald waters surrounded by lofty ice-covered peaks in the Banff National Park. It is fed by the Cascade river and is the largest lake in the Park. The views of sunrise over the lake are glorious, and there is plenty to do all day. You can take a leisurely boat cruise or scuba dive in the cold waters, which can go upto a depth of 100 metres. There are picnic facilities on the banks of the lake.

The Lake Minnewanka Loop is a 15 mile scenic drive to the south-west of the lake, with views over Two Jack Lake, Johnson Lake, Cascade Ponds, and Bankhead which has ruins of an abandoned coal mine and mining town. Part of the stretch is closed from November to April.
