The South African Air Force Museum at the Port Elizabeth airport has exhibits related to the history of the Air Force. Located on the grounds of the old WWII 42 Air School in the vintage Air Gunnery Training Centre & Bellman hangar, the museum houses 9 aircraft, including a Boeing 707, Jorg IV Skimmerfoil, helicopters, a supersonic jet fighter, 2 Harvard trainers, and the oldest surviving jet fighter in South Africa. The main exhibition hall displays aircraft memorabilia with a collection of models and pictures, such as parts from the first SAAF plane involved in World War II, and a Swastika cut from a Messerschmitt. Aviation enthusiasts can experience the thrill of piloting in the SAAF Buccaneer 415 flight simulator. The museum also has an aviation library, and an art gallery showcasing a collection of aviation-themed contemporary oil paintings, prints and postcards.
