Champs Elysees, Paris

The Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous boulevards in the world, stretching for 1.9 kilometres from Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe on Place Charles de Gaulle.

The Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous boulevards in the world, stretching for 1.9 kilometres from Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe on Place Charles de Gaulle. The 70 metre wide avenue is lined with theatres, cafés, and luxury shops, and hosts the annual Bastille Day military parade. It is named after the Elysium from Greek mythology which is a paradise for heroes after their death. Drive down the avenue in style on a Vintage Citroen 2CV, and enjoy the beautiful sights of the landmarks on the route.

Champs-Élysées was originally laid out in 1667 as an extension of the Tuileries Garden from Place de la Concorde to Rond-Point by André Le Nôtre, who transformed the uninhabited marshes in the area into beautiful formal gardens and an arterial avenue. It was extended further over the centuries to become the axis of west Paris.

The original lower part of the boulevard, from the Place de la Concorde to the Rond-Point, runs through the Jardin des Champs-Élysées, a 14 hectare park that contains the Grand Palais, Petit Palais, Théâtre Marigny, Espace Pierre Cardin, Marionnettes des Champs-Élysées, Statue de Clemenceau, Winston Churchill Statue, and several restaurants. The stretch from Rond-Point to the Arc de Triomphe is lined with commercial establishments, mostly upscale outlets such as Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Guerlain, and Fouquet's.
