The Latin Quarter on the Left Bank of the Seine has historically been the university district of Paris centered around the Sorbonne, the home of the former University of Paris. Today, it houses the Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Paris-Sorbonne University, Paris Descartes University, the École Nationale des Chartes and the École pratique des hautes études. The Latin Quarter has a number of other higher education establishments such as the École Normale Supérieure, the École des Mines de Paris, Panthéon-Assas University, the Schola Cantorum, and the Jussieu University campus.

The area is known for its student life, with lively bistros and cafes as well as various entertainment options. Explore the Boulevards St. Michel and St. Germaine which are lined with various eateries and bookshops. If you are in the area, drop by at the Musée national du Moyen Âge, better known as the Cluny Museum, It showcases an outstanding collection of tapestries, as well as ancient Roman baths.
