Rideau Hall has been the official residence of the Monarch of England and her representative the Governor General of Canada since 1867. The stately Rideau Hall Complex buildings and grounds spread over 36 hectares were styled as a 19th-century British Regency country estate, with different architectural modifications over time. Also known as 'Canada's House', an increasing emphasis has been placed on showcasing fine Canadian art, furniture, food and wine. Visit and honouring Canadians. Free guided tours are available daily to show you around the State rooms where the governor general fulfills official duties, and the residence which has a good collection of Canadian art and furniture. You can take a self-guided tour of the grounds in the complex, which includes the Canadian Heritage Gardens.
