Akershus Fortress

The Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that functions as the Norwegian Government's principal location for official ceremonies and state receptions. Built in the 13th - 14th century to protect Oslo from foreign invasions, it has served its cause over the centuries during Swedish sieges. Walk around to discover its history, and see the Royal Mausoleum, Akershus Castle Church, The Norwegian Armed Forces Museum which explores Norway's defence history from the Middle Ages to post - World War II, and The Norwegian Resistance Museum which explores Nazi occupation and Norway's role in World War II.
