The Musée et Site Archéologiques de Nice-Cimiez is located on the site of the ancient Roman city of Cemenelum (Cimiez). Excavations reveal the 3rdcentury settlement had an amphitheatre, spa complex with swimming pools, sudatorium (steam room), tepidarium (warm bath), caldarium (hot bath), frigidarium (cold bath) and gyms, and elaborate walled homes.
The museum displays unearthed objects, models and artifacts related to the archaeological site, exploring its Ligurian and Roman history. See reconstructions of tombs, funerary stelae, ancient coins, ceramics from various Mediterranean civilizations, milestones from the Roman road of Via Julia Augusta, bronze, glass and terracotta wares and objects, tools, the Mask of Silenus, bronze furniture pieces from the wreck of the ancient ship Fourmigue, statuette of the warrior of Mount Bégo, and a monumental statue of Antonia Minor from the 1stcentury.
