The 165 feet tall Moonlight Towers in Austin are the only known surviving light towers in the world, built in 1894-'95 to illuminate several blocks of a neighborhood at night before incandescent electric street lighting became common.

Only 17 of the original 31 towers survive, of which the one at Zilker Park is the best known, as the site of the Zilker Holiday Tree.
