Named after the French royal House of Bourbon, the Bourbon Street is New Orleans' party street, lined with numerous pulsating bars, electric dance clubs, live music venues, and street performers. Home to iconic drinks, dueling pianos, legendary jazz parlors and Mardi Gras revelry, the stretch has a vibrant nightlife that is unparalleled.

  • Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop at #941 is the oldest operating bar in the US, established in 1772. Its old world wood and stone interiors are candle-lit at night, and the premises are believed to be haunted.
  • The Old Absinthe House at #240 counts Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, General Robert E Lee, Franklin Roosevelt, and Frank Sinatra among patrons.
  • Pat O'Brien's Bar (just around the corner of St Peter's) is noted for inventing the fruity red Hurricane cocktail and popularizing the dueling piano.
  • Spirits on Bourbon at #615 is home to the infamous barber's chair, and the Resurrection cocktail which is served in a flashing skull cup.
  • Tropical Isle at #600 serves the original Hand Grenade.
  • 711 Bourbon Heat is haunted by original owner Dr. Tricou’s niece Penelope, who tripped down the stairs from the third floor to her death.
  • Bourbon Cowboy at #241 is rodeo-themed, and its highlight is the mechanical bull.
  • Bourbon Pub and Parade at #801 is the largest gay club in the city, and open 24x7.
  • Cafe Lafitte in Exile at #901 is the oldest gay bar in the US.
  • Oz at #800 is another flashy gay club and one of the best dance floors on the stretch.
  • Meow has the best karaoke on the street.
  • Channing Tatum's Saints and Sinners at #627 is noted for its gentleman's club ambience.
  • Johnny White's at #718 is for Redskins fans and motorcycle enthusiasts.
  • Fritzels European Jazz Club and Jazz Playhouse are popular music venues with great live acts.
  • The strip clubs include Rick's Cabaret, Temptations and Larry Flynt's Barely Legal Club.
For a spot of quiet away from the razzmatazz, head to the Musical Legends Park which has life-size statues of local musical legends. Also worth a visit is Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo on the corner of St. Ann Street, where you can pick up kitschy witchy souvenirs.
