The Agora, which translates to 'gathering place' was the centre of political, economic, public, spiritual, intellectual, and artistic life in ancient Greek city-states.

The Agora, which translates to 'gathering place' was the centre of political, economic, public, spiritual, intellectual, and artistic life in ancient Greek city-states. The Ancient Agora of Classical Athens is one of the best known agoras, with its ruins throwing light on the society of that era. Ruins of temples, stoa or colonnaded arcades which served as walkways, and monuments can be explored here. Notable structures of the Agora of Athens include the Temple of Hephaestus, Temple of Aphrodite Urania, Stoa of Attalos (which also houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora), Odeon of Agrippa concert hall, Tholos - seat of the Prytaneion (administrators), and Metroon (votive building) of Cybele.
